Raising children to be competitive or cooperative?

As you know the generation gap is often very great and parents need to improve their children’s behavior and performance to fit into the modern world. In this argument, I’m going to discuss about competition and co-operation in the children's life and I will focus more on their study.

Firstly, I’m going to talk about the competition between children as many people like their children to challenge themselves to reach the high goals and grades in school and to obtain a good position. One example is seen when children are playing games; every one of them likes to be the winner like in the adult world or even sibling rivalry between children in families can be seen for the parent’s attention and praise. These reward mechanisms help the child to become ambitious to get more awards in his later life.

However, there are also some people who like their children to be more co-operative in their life and to focus on being a team player. They can study in a group to improve their skills if they are weak in some areas and at the same time they can help others. This sense of social responsibility also allows them to resolve problems easier if they work as one and they can break down any difficult problems.

Finally, in my opinion people have to teach their children to be full competitive and co-operative to be interested in life and success. There are times when both life skills are important such as sports when competitiveness and team work are both required.

Economy vs Environment

In past centuries, people were not worried about the environment in the future and what the risk for humans would be for the natural world. Most people were thinking only to earn money which means developing the economy. In this argument, I’m going to discuss the economy and its effects on the environment.

People started to think of the environment in recent years, and as you know they are earning money from many sources. Cars are produced in factories, causing co2 to be released, at the same time harming the environment. Another example is when people cut trees to build houses or furniture; this also harms the environment. Nowadays, many people are considering that in future CO2 will increase even more because business people will increase the manufacture of those products as the population is growing day by day. Finally all of this will affect the ozone layer and also will cause global warming which could disturb the natural balance, leading to more extreme weather events like the volcanic eruption in Iceland or the recent earthquakes in Chile and Haiti.

Many people argue that their lifestyle is necessary for their daily life. I believe that our needs should not count for more than the environment because it will affect us in the long term. Therefore, we should produce in a way that doesn’t affect the environment as much like, using more public transport like the new metro in Dubai and hybrid cars which use electricity.

Thus it is possible to produce ethically without damaging the environment as much by limiting pollution.

US farms & farm workers 1910-2000

As you can see the graph is showing the number of farms and farm workers in the USA during the period 1910-2000.

In all years the number of farm workers was always higher than the number of farms. For example in 1940 the number of farms was greater than 6 million; in the same year the number of farm workers was more than the number of farms and the difference was approximately 5.2 million. As the graph shows both of them started to decline in 1930 but the number of farm workers decreased sharply, more than the number of farms. Later on, after 1970 both of them kept on decreasing but gradually. In 1990 the number of farm workers again started increasing very slowly. On the other hand the number of farms stayed at a little more than 2 million.

Finally, as you can see the graph shows that the number of farm workers did not became less than 2 million, nor did the number of farms.

Changing in developing countries

As you can see, the line graph is showing the population of the less developed countries and the more developed countries from 1750 up to 2150; that means the changes over 400 years.

In 1750, as you can see, the line graph is showing that both of them, which are the less developed countries and the more developed countries, are less than half a billion and the lowest mark of developing countries. After that both of them start rising gradually which is the less developed countries register almost half a billion but the more developed countries are still less than half a billion. In 1950 the less developed countries dramatically increased and in 2025 they will be nearly 8.4 billion. On the other hand the more developed countries are growing very slowly until 2025 and after they will start to steady. But the less developed countries will continue to rise up to 2150.

Lastly, the increase in less developed countries is very huge and is more than the rich countries.

Mobile phones & driving

There are a lot of statistics which show that the reasons of traffic accidents are caused by the people who are using the mobile phone while driving their vehicles.

Some people argue that having the mobile phone is very necessary in the car. In fact, it’s useful when they face an emergency situation. For example, if you travel to another country by car and suddenly the engine has problem or breakdown, in this case, you need to call someone for help. Also if your child has a problem in the school and his teacher needs to inform you so they can contact you through the mobile phone if you are outside your house.

On the other hand, many people believe that the mobile phone is disturbing the drivers. For instance, if you concentrate with a person on the mobile phone while you are driving, that might cause a very big accident and you can lose yourself and other people’s souls. In 2006, about 619 people died in traffic accidents in the UAE because of using mobile phones while driving in the wrong way. They argue that the driver should park his car in the side of the road so he can receive any call or call anyone to keep him and others safe.

Of course, the mobile phone is a very important tool in our daily life that we cannot dispense with. However we should use this tool in the proper way, so we will prevent ourselves and others from the traffic accidents and our families who are waiting for us to come back home.

Traffic congestion and parking problems in Abu Dhabi

Now in these days many countries have traffic congestion and parking problems and the UAE is one of them, mainly Abu Dhabi, so in this essay I’m going to discuss these problems and try to solve them.

One cause of parking and traffic congestion is the increasing population. Another cause is many tourists in Abu Dhabi. They need to transfer from one place to other places, so they need to use taxies. Especially in summer no one can walk, because the temperature is reaching more than 45°C. One more cause is the female and younger drivers, because the females are driving too carefully. On the other hand the younger drivers are driving without caring and with high speed in the town, so this can cause accidents, so it will make traffic congestion. The last cause is the industry/commerce can cause these problems because they are using the port to import and export the cargo and to deliver these things they need cars, vans or trucks.
For every problem there are solutions, so for traffic congestion and parking there are many solutions. One of these is overpasses or underpasses. Also the metro will help to reduce the traffic congestion, because many people will use it to transfer from one place to other especially in the town. Also to reduce traffic parking they need to build underground parking or floors for each tower in the downtown. One more solution for traffic congestion and parking is to relocate government departments / colleges etc. from the down town to site off the island.

To sum up, traffic congestion and parking problems are everywhere in the world but I see that the best solution is to relocate government from the downtown, so it will be helpful to reduce these problems.
